Patriots Head to Fordham for Bronx Battle Wednesday

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team (14-1, 2-0) makes the trip north on I-95 for a Wednesday night contest at Fordham (9-6, 0-2).

Tip-off in the Bronx between the Patriots and Rams is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday's game will be streamed on ESPN+, featuring commentary from Mike Watts and Andrew Bogusch. In addition, Voice of the Patriots Bill Rohland will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with streaming coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.

PATRIOT POINTS
• Saturday's win improved the Patriots to 14-1 for the first time in program history. GMU is one of just 11 programs nationally to have 14 or more wins.

• A win Wednesday night would give George Mason its first ever 3-0 Atlantic 10 start.

• The Patriots improved to 2-0 in A-10 play with a 61-50 victory over Rhode Island Saturday. GMU held the Rams to 35.2 percent shooting - the lowest by a Mason foe since November 15 - and just 50 points, the lowest scoring output by an A-10 opponent since Feb. 5, 2025.

• Staš Sivka led the Patriots with career bests in in points (17), rebounds (6), 3pt FG (3), steals (2) and minutes (32) vs. URI. He is a +31 in 44 total A-10 minutes this season.

• Freshman Emmanuel Kanga is the A-10 Rookie of the Week after averaging 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and shooting 90 percent in two wins. It's the first A-10 Rookie of the Week honor for a Patriot since Baraka Okojie on Jan. 29, 2024.

• The Green & Gold rank fourth nationally in FT rate (.503) and make 20.3 free throws/game (12th in the country). On the other end of the floor, the Patriots commit just 14.9 fouls per contest (25th-best nationally).

• Two-time A-10 Player of the Week Kory Mincy leads the A-10 in scoring (17.5 ppg), is fourth in assist/turnover ratio (2.33), fifth in 3pt FGM/game (2.5) and is seventh in assists per contest (3.7). He ranks 13th nationally in FT percentage (.928).

• Mincy is 45 points away from 1,000 for his career, while Nick Ellington is just 13 points away.

• The Patriots lead the A-10 in fewest turnovers/game (10.5) and have averaged just 8.5 over the past 10 games.

• GMU ranks 46th nationally in 3pt percentage (.374) and made 8-of-16 attempts (.500) vs. Rhode Island on Saturday.

• George Mason has won the rebounding battle of 13 of 15 games and ranks 56th nationally in rebounding margin (+5.6). Fordham is seventh nationally in rebounding margin (+12.0).

• George Mason is 8-0 when the team scores 80+ points this season and 24-0 when the team reaches the 80-point plateau under Skinn.

• The Patriots enter Wednesday's game ranked 77th in the NET. GMU also is No. 88 in KenPom.

BENCH BOLSTERS PATRIOT EFFORT
On Jan. 3 vs. Rhode Island, George Mason's bench outscored the Rams' reserves by 29 (36-7). On the year, the Patriots hold a +116 (433-317) bench scoring edge over opponent reserves. The Patriot reserve unit has outscored its counterparts in 10 of 15 games this season.

HISTORY vs. FORDHAM
Wednesday's matchup marks the 18th all-time meeting between Mason and Fordham. The Rams hold a 10-7 advantage in the series, although the Patriots have won seven of the past 11 matchups. GMU is just 1-5 in the games played inside Rose Hill Gymnasium. The teams also have met four times in the A-10 Tournament. Last season, the Patriots took a 74-64 victory on Feb. 26 in Fairfax. Jalen Haynes led the Green & Gold with 25 points in the game (8-20 FG, 9-11 FT) to go with seven rebounds.

A LOOK AT THE RAMS (9-6, 0-2 A-10; NET #225, KenPom #197)
Fordham was picked to finish 14th in the 2025-26 A-10 preseason poll. The Rams went 9-4 in non-conference play and are 0-2 to start the A-10 season. Fordham is 7-3 inside Rose Hill Gymnasium. The Rams' stout defense ranks first in the A-10 in points allowed (62.9/game) and opponents shoot just 45.3 percent from 2pt range (43rd nationally). Fordham also gets an offensive rebound on 37.1 percent of its possessions (35th nationally) and is 12th nationally in rebounding margin (+12.0). Dejour Reaves ranks sixth in the A-10 in scoring (16.6 ppg) and is fifth in the league in assists/contest (13.9). Christian Henry (12.3 ppg) and Rikus Schulte (12.1 ppg) also average double figures. Schulte is 11th in the country in offensive rebounds/game (3.93) and 16th in overall rebounding (10.1 rpg).

UP NEXT
George Mason returns home for a marquee matchup against in-state foe VCU. Tip-off between the Patriots and Rams on Saturday (Jan. 10) is set for 12 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
