Top-100 Rankings
FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's basketball associate head coach
Steve Curran has been named to the seventh annual Silver Waves Media 100 Most Impactful Mid Major Assistant Coaches and GMs list.
It marks the fourth time Curran has been recognized by Silver Waves media. He earned a spot on the Top-100 list in 2020 and 2022 and was named to the 100 Rising Stars list in 2024.
The Silver Waves Media list has become the industry standard for excellence. The 2026 Men's list features some of the most outstanding and impactful assistants and GM's in Division I Men's basketball. After consulting with a panel of industry professionals, the top-100 ledger was created.
Over his first two seasons in Fairfax, Curran has helped lead the Patriots to new program bests for overall wins (47), league wins (24), overall winning percentage (.691) and league winning percentage (.667) for a GMU staff over its first two campaigns.
He has worked closely with head coach
Tony Skinn ('06) to build on that foundation this season, during which the program is off to the best ever start in school history (14-1) and has posted the most out-of-league victories (12) since 1983-84. It's the most non-conference wins in the program's A-10 or CAA eras.
In 2024-25, the Patriots earned a share of their first-ever A-10 regular season title, tallied the program's first NIT victory since 2004 and notched a school record-tying 27 overall victories. The Green & Gold set a new school record for Atlantic 10 league victories (15) and started league play 12-1 for the first time in the program's 59-year history. The Patriots locked up a double bye in the A-10 Tournament for the first time and reached a conference title game for the first time since 2009.
George Mason tallied a school-record 18 home victories in 2024-25. The Patriots also swept their A-10 home schedule (9-0) for the first time ever and won five-straight A-10 road games for the first time in program annals. The team's 11-game win streak from Jan. 8-Feb. 18 was the second longest in the nation at the time and was just the fourth 10+ game winning streak in school history.
In his first season working under Mason head coach
Tony Skinn ('06), Curran helped the Patriots reach 20 regular season (pre-conference tournament) wins for the first time since 2011-12 and a top-100 ranking for the first time since 2010-11.
The Patriots earned four top-100 NET victories and defeated two teams which qualified for the NCAA Tournament (Dayton, South Dakota State). George Mason's win over #16 Dayton was its first ever over a ranked foe at home and also marked the highest-ranked win by a Patriot program in regular season history.
Curran and the Patriots return to action Wednesday night when George Mason travels to the Bronx for a 7 p.m. contest at Fordham.
