FAIRFAX, Va. – The women's volleyball team heads to Annapolis, Md. this weekend to play in the 14th annual Kristen Dickmann Invitational, hosted by the Naval Academy.
The Patriots open up the weekend with a game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Friday, Sept. 5. George Mason is 0-2 vs. Wake Forest historically. The Demon Deacons are off to a 0-2 start after dropping their opening weekend games to Cincinnati and Michigan at the Cincinnati Invitational. They are currently second in the ACC in kills per set (14.63) and assists per set (13.75). Head coach Jeff Hulsmeyer is in his first season at the helm. The Demon Deacons added All-American Patrycja Lagida from Chicago State in the off season, and she currently leads the team with 29 kills through two games.
Then, on Saturday, Sept. 6, George Mason will face the home team, the Navy Midshipmen, at 6 p.m. The Patriots lead the series against Navy, 9-5, including including a 3-1 win last season at the Mason Invite. The Mids are off to a 2-1 start, with wins over Utah Valley and Montana. They were picked to finished 7th of nine teams in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. Navy is 19th in the nation in Team Attacks per set (38.77) and lead the Patriot League in Blocks per set (2.62) and Team Total Blocks (34.0).
Finally, on Sunday, Sept. 7, the Green & Gold play the Air Force Falcons, at 12 p.m. The Patriots and Falcons are 0-1 historically, with their only previous meet up coming in 2015. Air Force has started strong this season, winning all three of their games last weekend against Jacksonville State, Portland State, and Seattle. The Falcons are picked to finished last in the 12-team Mountain West conference, though they currently lead the conference in Aces per set (2.18), Assists per set (13.55), Hitting Percentage (30.7%), Kills per set (14.55), and Team Service Aces (24).

- The Green & Gold currently lead the A-10 in Team Service Aces (26) largely thanks to redshirt freshman Mia Hazelett who posted 10 aces last weekend

- Key returners for the Patriots include: Autumn Martinez-Robinson, last year's libero who played every set and finished seventh in the country in total aces and aces per set; Avery Booker, who was second on the team last year in kills (233) and service aces (25), and was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team; Camryn Weldon and Damiana Bova-Ford, the dynamic setting duo who combined for a total of 1,094 assists last season; and Chelsea Colter, who led the team in blocks with 105.0, nearly doubling the next closest total.
- Shifflett Bachmann was named the VaSID Coach of the Year for the 2024 season, and Autumn Martinez-Robinson was named to the VaSID All-State Second Team
Admission to the Kristen Dickmann Invitational is
free, but only those with a DoD-approved ID will be allowed to drive onto the USNA. All other fans must park at an offsite location and take a fan bus in. On Friday (2-9:30 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.), fans can park at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (there is a $10 fee to park) and take the free shuttle onto the base, departing and leaving from the Blue Angel jet. On Saturday (2-9:30 p.m), due to the Navy football game, fans can park for free at the Navy Health Clinic and take the shuttle from there.
All visitors 18 and over must have a valid picture ID to enter the USNA. No exceptions.
