FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason swept Saint Louis in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon at the Recreation & Athletic Complex, earning a 3-0 victory (25-9, 25-20, 25-17) to start conference play 2-0.
The Patriots (9-4, 2-0 A-10) overpowered the Billikens (8-5, 0-2 A-10) with a sharp .333 team hitting percentage while holding Saint Louis to just .097.
George Mason opened the match on fire, hitting .700 in the first set to cruise to a 25-9 win. The Patriots battled through four lead changes in the second frame before closing it out 25-20. They sealed the sweep 25-17 with balanced offense and strong defense.
Sophomore outside hitter Nia Thompson led the attack with 11 kills on .429 hitting, adding three service aces and seven digs for a match-high 14.5 points. Outside hitter Kiera Hamilton followed with 10 kills at a .296 clip and two blocks, while middle blocker Meredith Brown was nearly flawless with eight kills on a blistering .727 efficiency and six blocks. Setter Ava Cheney directed the offense with 17 assists and four blocks, and libero Autumn Martinez-Robinson anchored the back row with 16 digs and two aces.
