FAIRFAX, Va. – Graduate student forward Jacobo Sanfeliu scored his fourth goal of the season and graduate student goalkeeper Jaume Salvado posted the shutout to lift the Patriots to a 1-0 victory over UMBC on Saturday night at Retriever Soccer Park in Baltimore, Md.

George Mason (3-2-1, 0-0-1 Atlantic 10) took the lead over UMBC (4-3-1, 0-0-0 America East) in the 18th minute of play.

Off a corner kick, junior midfield Javier Montava played a short pass to sophomore forward Martim Sereno, who lofted the ball to the top of the six-yard box.  Surrounded by defenders, Sanfeliu soared high into the air and played a header into the top right corner to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.

Montava notched his second assist of the season and Sereno recorded his first assist of the year.

George Mason junior forward Kelly Janssen nearly increased the lead with just over eight minutes to play.  He raced down the right side past a defender and hit the post with a low shot.

Salvado made a season high eight saves to record his first clean sheet of the season and eighth as a Patriot.  The eight saves are the most that he has recorded in a game with the Green and Gold.
