FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team is set to host the Patriot Invite tournament this weekend with games against Coppin State and Rutgers. All three games will be held at The RAC on the George Mason University campus.
The Patriots start the weekend with Coppin State on Thursday at 6 p.m. The Eagles are 5-7 so far this season, with wins over Elon, North Dakota, Lafayette, Penn, and Iona. They also took Maryland to a fifth set on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Coppin State was picked to finish third in the MEAC conference preseason poll, and libero Coco Figueroa and outside hitter TaKenya Stafford were named to the preseason All-MEAC team. The Patriots are 1-2 historically vs. the Eagles.
Coppin State and Rutgers will play a neutral site matchup on Friday at 5 p.m. at the RAC.
The Green & Gold will round out the weekend hosting Rutgers at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights are 7-2 so far this season, including the last six games in a row. They were picked to finish last out of 18 teams in the Big Ten. The Patriots are 6-3 historically against Rutgers.

- Key returners for the Patriots include: Autumn Martinez-Robinson, last year's libero who played every set and finished seventh in the country in total aces and aces per set; Avery Booker, who was second on the team last year in kills (233) and service aces (25), and was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team; Camryn Weldon and Damiana Bova-Ford, the dynamic setting duo who combined for a total of 1,094 assists last season; and Chelsea Colter, who led the team in blocks with 105.0, nearly doubling the next closest total.
- Head coach Megan Shifflett Bachmann was named the VaSID Coach of the Year for the 2024 season, and Autumn Martinez-Robinson was named to the VaSID All-State Second Team
Admission is free for all Patriots' women's volleyball home matches played at the RAC and all home games will be streamed nationally on ESPN+.
