FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team is set to co-host the Battle of the Beltway tournament this weekend with games against Morgan State, UMBC, and Loyola Maryland. All three games will be held at The RAC on the George Mason University campus.
The Patriots start the weekend with Morgan State at 6 p.m. on Friday. The Bears are 3-3 so far this season, with wins over Arkansas Pine Bluff, Quinnipiac, and Stonehill. Morgan State was picked to finish 6th of eight teams in the MEAC, the same conference as Howard who the Patriots beat 3-1 earlier this season. Historically, George Mason leads the series 3-2 over the Bears, including a 3-1 win last season.
On Saturday, George Mason will host UMBC at 4 p.m. The Retrievers are 1-4 to start the season, with their lone win over University of Delaware. UMBC was picked to finish second in the America East conference. Outside hitter Hannah Doobs was picked to the Preseason All-Conference team. The Patriots and Retrievers are 22-5, historically. The two teams haven't faced off since 2019.
The Green & Gold will round out the weekend hosting Loyola Maryland at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Greyhounds are 2-4 this season, with wins over The Citadel and Robert Morris. Loyola Maryland was picked to finished six out of nine teams in the Patriot League. The Green & Gold are 12-0 vs. the Greyhounds historically.

- Key returners for the Patriots include: Autumn Martinez-Robinson, last year's libero who played every set and finished seventh in the country in total aces and aces per set; Avery Booker, who was second on the team last year in kills (233) and service aces (25), and was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team; Camryn Weldon and Damiana Bova-Ford, the dynamic setting duo who combined for a total of 1,094 assists last season; and Chelsea Colter, who led the team in blocks with 105.0, nearly doubling the next closest total.
- Head coach Megan Shifflett Bachmann was named the VaSID Coach of the Year for the 2024 season, and Autumn Martinez-Robinson was named to the VaSID All-State Second Team
