Baltimore, Md. -- The George Mason Patriots (0-5-1, 0-0) are set to travel to Baltimore, Maryland for an inter-DMV matchup against the Loyola University of Marlyand Greyhounds (3-1-2, 0-0) tomorrow, September 11 at 6 p.m. The match will be played at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Green and Gold are looking to secure their first win ahead of conference play beginning later this month.
George Mason is eager to apply the adjustments made in practice this week after reviewing the previous matchup during film sessions. Head coach
Aaron Brunner is confident in his team finding their offensive and defensive identities before pivotal conference matchups begin.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
On the pitch, Loyola is led by Savannah Manset, Taryn Buckley, and Francesca Khachatourians. Manset leads the Greyhounds in goals with two, and points, accumulating five so far this season. Furthermore, Asma Merzougui has tallied five shots on goals thus far. The Patriots will need to contain Manset, who has 19 shots this season, with eight being on target.
On the defensive end, keepers Hannah Goetzer and Brigid Mulholland have each played three games this season. In those matchups, Goetzer has allowed one goal, and Mulholland has let in three. The Greyhounds will most likely start Goetzer, who has a 0.33 goals against average, to Mulholland's 1.00.
HISTORY AGAINST LOYOLA
The Patriots and Greyhounds haven't faced off in 11 years, with the last match being played on August 22, 2014. The Patriots dropped that match 2-0. Mason's last victory against Loyola came in 2013, taking down the Greyhounds in Baltimore by a score of 1-0. The Green and Gold are anticipating taking a 2-1 series advantage on Thursday.
