PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The George Mason women's soccer team dropped a match at UPenn on Sunday, 1-0.
The Green and Gold threatened early, with a cross by
Ariana Reyes that was intercepted by the keeper. The Quakers nearly took the lead after a shot by Mallory Lucas hit the crossbar. Pennsylvania had several scoring chances by way of corner kicks, but were stopped by GMU's defense.
UPenn controlled the match for the majority of the first half, scoring their first goal in the 17th minute. Taylor Ferraro found the back of the net off of a rebound in the box, sneaking it past GMU for an early 1-0 lead. Keeper
Libby Davy faced eight shots in the first half, recording six saves.
George Mason's first scoring opportunity came via a free kick taken by midfielder
Gianna Chrapek, from 10 yards outside the right side of the box.
Molly Starner managed to gain position in the box and fire a shot, but it was blocked by a Pennsylvania defender. Forward
Aaliyah Schinaman fired a shot from 15 yards out to the bottom left corner, which was anticipated by the keeper.
