FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's volleyball capped its opening weekend with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at the RAC. The Patriots (2-1) took down the Hoyas (0-3) by set scores of 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 28-26.
Georgetown struck first in the opening frame, hitting .280 and edging George Mason 25-22.
The Patriots bounced back in the second, battling through 10 ties and two lead changes. A balanced attack, led by freshmen Kiera Hamilton and Nia Thompson, lifted George Mason to a 25-21 win to even the match.
The third set followed a similar script, with both sides trading points until the Patriots created separation behind kills from Thompson. George Mason closed out the set 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead.
The fourth set proved to be the most dramatic, featuring seven ties and two lead changes. Georgetown fought from being down 22-11 to tied the game at 24, but the Patriots ultimately prevailed 28-26 on a kill from senior Haley Graetz to clinch the victory.

- Freshmen Kiera Hamilton and Nia Thompson shared the team lead with 15 kills each, hitting .333 and .387, respectively.
- Senior Haley Graetz added 14 kills and 4 blocks
- Setter duo Ava Cheney (23 assists) and Camryn Weldon (21 assists) combined for 44 assists to pace the offense. Weldon also tallied 12 digs for her first double-double of the season
- Junior libero Autumn Martinez-Robinson anchored the defense with a team-high 17 digs.
- Redshirt freshman Mia Hazelett had 6 service aces, tied for 4th most in a game in program history
