Patriots Fall to James Madison at Home

FAIRFAX, Va. -- The George Mason Patriots came up short in their home match against James Madison University, falling 4-1 at home on Sunday night.

The Dukes scored the first goal of the match, when Ginny Lackey found the back of the net for the second time this season. Aleigha Arndt and Lilli White picked up the assists.

The Green and Gold responded with the equalizer in the 23rd minute, with Ariana Reyes scoring her first goal of the season and her first as a Patriot. Reyes took the ball of a rebound 15 yards from the goal and placed the ball just out of the keeper's reach. The Patriots would hold JMU scoreless for the rest of the first half, going into the second 45 minutes tied 1-1. 

James Madison opened the scoring in the second half in the 69th minute, as the Dukes capitalized on a corner from Abby Fisher. Audrey Cornock was able to get position in the box, and directed a header into the goal. JMU kept up the pressure during the second half, attempting a total of six corner kicks in the second half. 

GMU had several chances on the offensive side of the field, as six different Patriots recorded a shot. George Mason's stamina was certainly on display, with seven Patriots playing the full 90 minutes.

The Dukes' next goal came in the 75th minute, with Aleigha Arndt scoring from just beyond the box after a pass from Abby Fisher, her first of two assists in the match. 

JMU scored its final goal in the 82nd minute, with Ginny Lackey scoring her third goal of the season off a corner kick from Avery White. 

Sunday's match was a physical one, as the Dukes logged eight fouls to Mason's five.

The Patriots recorded six shots during the match, and JMU attempted 14. The Dukes had the advantage in corner kicks, seven to three.
