FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team has been predicted to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, announced by the league on Friday.Â
The A-10 Preseason Poll and Preseason All-Conference Team are voted on by the league's head coaches.
George Mason head coach
Rich Costanzo enters his fourth season. He was named Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Patriots to a 13-4-1 overall record and the A-10 regular season title with a mark of 6-1-1 in 2024.
After leading the Patriots to one of the most successful regular seasons in program history, Costanzo became the first coach in program history to earn Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors. He is the fifth Patriots' coach across sports to earn A-10 Coach of the Year honors since George Mason joined the conference in 2013.
Six Patriots also claimed Atlantic 10 post-season honors including freshman midfielder
Martim Sereno, who was selected to the 12-member All-Rookie Team.Â
James Eliuda was tabbed All-Conference Second Team midfielder and Javi Sánchez earned All-Conference Second Team defender honors.
The six players are the most that the Patriots have had selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team.
Costanzo led the club to the 2024 A-10 regular season championship for the first time in program history. George Mason posted six regular season victories in the A-10 for the first time since joining the league in 2013 and earned the top seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Patriots recorded 13 wins in a season for the first time since the 2008 campaign.Â
Last season, the Patriots climbed to 13th in the United Soccer Coaches Association poll this season, the first time in 10 years that George Mason has earned a national ranking, and were the first Division I program to post 13 wins last season.
George Mason finished the 2024 A-10 regular season third in goals (33) and goals per match (2.2) and tied for the third-fewest goals allowed (17).
In this year's A-10 Preseason Poll, Dayton was predicted to finish first (159 pts., 8 first place votes), with George Mason second (153 pts., 3 first place votes) and Saint Louis third (149 pts., 2 first place votes).
