Fairfax, Va. — George Mason University men's track and field secured three All-State First Team selections as announced by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID), honoring standout performances from the 2025 indoor season. Patriots athletes Walt Bannerman, Paul McClain, and Joshua Sutton each earned spots on the All-State First Team.
Walt Bannerman continued his dominant pole vault campaign by capturing gold at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships with a mark of 5.21 meters. His performance broke the Atlantic 10 conference record that had remained untouched since 1993, a 32-year milestone.
Paul McClain claimed the 500-meter title at the Atlantic 10 Championships with a time of 1:03.60, solidifying his place among Virginia's top mid-distance runners. McClain's consistent performance throughout the season earned him a spot on the All-State First Team.
Joshua Sutton, in his first and only season at George Mason, made an immediate impact. He captured gold in the 60-meter hurdles at the conference championships, clocking in at 8.10 seconds. His breakout season earned him All-State First Team honors as one of the state's premier hurdlers.
Each year, VaSID recognizes top student-athletes across 23 sports, naming 44 All-State teams. In addition to athletic honors, VaSID also selects an Academic All-State team and names an all-sports champion in both the University and College divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to media relations professionals from universities and conference offices across the Commonwealth.
