Men's Basketball 7/24/2025 12:02:00 PM
FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's basketball program will renew a historic Commonwealth rivalry with Old Dominion during a new three-season scheduling agreement, beginning in 2025-26.

The Patriots will host the Monarchs on Dec. 13 this coming season and also battle ODU in Fairfax during the 2026-27 campaign. The Green & Gold will head to Norfolk for a road game during the 2027-28 season.

The Monarchs are the Patriots' sixth-most common opponent all time. George Mason and Old Dominion have matched up for 60 all-time meetings, including five games since the Patriots departed the CAA In 2013. ODU holds a 38-22 lead, but since 1998, George Mason has enjoyed a 21-16 advantage in the series.

The Dec. 13 contest between the teams will mark the first matchup since the 2022-23 campaign.

The ODU game marks the Patriots' fourth announced non-conference contest of 2025-26. In addition to the Dec. 6 road game at Virginia Tech, George Mason will compete in the Sunshine Slam Nov. 24-25 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The tournament field includes Florida Atlantic, Ohio and Loyola Marymount.

The remainder of the team's non-league slate will be announced in the coming weeks.

About The Patriots
Led by 2025 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Tony Skinn ('06), the George Mason Patriots are coming off the best season in the program's A-10 history. The Patriots earned a share of their first-ever A-10 regular season title, tallied the program's first NIT victory since 2004 and notched a school record-tying 27 overall victories. GMU also set a new school record for Atlantic 10 league victories (15) and reached the conference title game for the first time since 2009.

Senior guard Brayden O'Connor (9.1 ppg, 3.0 apg, 37.6 3pt FG%) returns from that squad and will join a talented roster of transfer players and incoming freshmen in 2025-26. The Patriots' transfer class ranks in the top-20 nationally amongst mid-majors (EvanMiya.com) and No. 1 in the Atlantic 10 (The Portal Report).
