FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's lacrosse head coach
Kara Mupo has announced the addition of two transfers to the 2025-26 roster: midfielder Emily Mowbray (Lindenwood/George Washington) and midfielder Matye Riley (Butler).
Emily Mowbray arrives in Fairfax following two seasons at Lindenwood, where she started all 18 games in 2024. She recorded 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists), ranked third on the team with 29 draw controls, and added 20 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Prior to Lindenwood, Mowbray competed at regional A-10 rival, George Washington University, appearing in 36 games and totaling 34 points on 26 goals and 8 assists, along with 26 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.
A Maryland native and graduate of Dulaney High School, Mowbray was a 12-season varsity athlete, a 2021 Lacrosse Hall of Fame recipient, and a two-time state finalist in both lacrosse and field hockey. She played club lacrosse for Uproar.
"We are so excited to welcome Emily to Mason Nation!" said Mupo. "Her previous experience in the A-10 during her time at George Washington as well as her competitive experience at Lindenwood will be a huge addition to our midfield this upcoming season. Additionally, Emily's leadership both on the field and in the classroom will continue to #pavetheway for the future of our program!"
Mowbray added, "I chose George Mason for the close-knit team culture, supportive coaching staff, and high-quality academic programs! I am so excited and grateful for the opportunity to finish my lacrosse career as a Patriot!"
Matye Riley joins the Patriots after a strong freshman campaign at Butler, where she appeared in all 14 games and started 11. Riley recorded three goals and an assist, while adding 12 ground balls, eight caused turnovers, and seven draw controls. She previously starred at both IMG Academy and Fort Zumwalt West High School, serving as a three-year captain and also competing in basketball.
"Matye will be another strong addition to our program this upcoming season," said Mupo. "After a solid freshman campaign at Butler, as well as her former competitive high school career at IMG Academy, Matye will bring a competitive edge to our midfield unit for the 2025-26 season."
Riley shared, "After my summer visit to GMU, it resonated with me that it was a personal fit regarding my desire for a continuation of growth as a student while simultaneously acquiring remarkable growth as an athlete. I can't wait to play for an amazing coaching staff and become a part of the Mason family. I am exhilarated to begin my journey as a Patriot!"
The additions of Mowbray and Riley strengthen the Green & Gold as the program builds momentum for the upcoming season under Coach Mupo's leadership.
