FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason women's basketball standout
Paula Suárez is headed to the professional ranks, officially signing with BCC Derthona Basketball in Italy. The 2025 graduate begins her professional career after helping lead the Patriots to the most historic season in program history.
A native of Pamplona, Spain, Suárez captained George Mason during the 2024–25 season, guiding the Patriots to their first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. She delivered a career-high 23 points in the A-10 title game, securing George Mason's place in the national spotlight.
Suárez capped off her senior year by being named the Atlantic 10's Most Improved Player. Over her career, she made a lasting mark in the George Mason record book, finishing 6th all-time in assists, 15th in made three-pointers, and 24th in blocked shots.
At Derthona, Suárez will bring her playmaking and leadership to a rising program competing in Italy's professional ranks.
"Paula is a talented playmaker with vision and physical presence," said BCC Derthona head coach Orazio Cutugno. "She prefers to create for her teammates and dictate the pace of the game. After her years overseas in college, she chose to embrace our project with enthusiasm and a desire to stand out."
Suárez becomes the latest Patriot to compete professionally, continuing to elevate the global profile of George Mason women's basketball.
