Fairfax, Va. – The IC4A/ECAC Championships at George Mason University kicked off with strong performances from the Patriots, highlighted by several podium finishes and standout individual efforts.
Arsalan Yaqubi started the day on a high note, taking first place in the hammer throw with a mark of 61.37m. In the pole vault, Kennedy Drish earned a spot on the podium, finishing third after clearing 4.02m.
Freshman Shania Staats had a memorable debut, becoming the individual champion in the long jump with a leap of 5.91m. Kailynn Tyson also reached the podium, placing third with a jump of 5.86m.
In the javelin throw, Jordynn Toliver claimed third place with a mark of 42.10m. On the track, Ay'rianna Moore finished sixth in the 400m, setting a new personal best of 55.51.
Abby Weening and Morgan Ryerson both qualified for the 100m hurdles finals, with Weening winning her heat in 14.39 and Ryerson advancing with a time of 14.25.

In the 100m prelims, Sierra Matheson advanced to the finals with a time of 12.21. On the men's side, both Ashton King and Max Karen qualified for the 100m final.
In distance events, Ellie Desmond continued her dominance, becoming the individual champion in the 1500m with a time of 4:24.70. Nourene Nabbus made a late surge in the 3000m steeplechase to earn the silver medal, finishing in 10:59.03.
Alex DeRoussel claimed victory in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:08.73, while Wesley Bond closed out the day by becoming the individual champion in the 5000m, clocking 14:26.86. Biruk Beardsley rounded out the podium in third place with a time of 14:39.56.
Competition resumes tomorrow with Day 2 of the IC4A/ECAC Championships beginning at 10 a.m. with the discus throw.
