FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's basketball head coach Tony Skinn ('06) has announced that former Northeastern University guard Masai Troutman will join the Patriot roster, beginning in 2025-26.
A native of Frederick, Md., Troutman started 46 of 72 games over three seasons for the Huskies and averaged 13.5 points/contest as a junior this past season.
"I love Masai's tenacity on both ends of the floor," Skinn said. "He can really shoot the basketball and he's a multidimensional guard/wing who gets after it defensively. He dealt with injuries this past year, but prior to that he was an outstanding rebounder. Next season we need to replace
Jared Billups by committee, and he has some of the qualities which make Jared special. He's big and physical and is ready to lock in defensively at this level. He's also a DMV guy and we know how successful those guys have been for us."
A 2024-25 All-CAA Preseason Team pick, Troutman scored 175 points over 13 games for the Huskies last season before missing CAA play due to injury. He played 24.2 minutes/game and shot a team-best 39.2 percent from 3pt range. He notched a season-best 22 points against Stony Brook and scored at least 15 points in eight of his 13 games.
A 6-foot-4-inch guard, Troutman also averaged double figures as a sophomore (10.0 ppg) while starting all 32 of Northeastern's games. In 28.6 minutes/game, he also averaged 1.0 steals and 1.6 assists while shooting at a 36.3 percent clip from beyond the arc.
Overall, he scored 663 points over his 72 games as a Husky.
Troutman played his high school basketball for St. Andrew's Episcopal School, where he averaged 23.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.7 blocks and 2.0 steals per game during his senior season. He was named to the
Washington Post All-Met Fourth Team and the MAC All-Conference Team while at St. Andrew's. He played his AAU ball for famed Team Takeover on the Nike EYBL Circuit.
Troutman joins a Patriot transfer class for 2025-26 which includes forward Dola Adebayo (Fort Myers, Fla./Mt. St. Mary's) and guard Kory Mincy (East Point, Ga./Presbyterian).
