Fairfax, Va.- George Mason grab an important conference win against the University of Charleston to push themselves up the standings. With Harvard falling to NNJIT earlier in the day, the Patriots move up to 4
th in the EIVA standings.
The first set was a hard-fought battle with both teams fighting for a lead until the very end.
Liam French had the opportunity to start and was the main offensive threat throughout the game. Liam set the tone with three straight kills for the first three points of the set. George Mason and the Golden Eagles were tied at 24 but a kill and a block by
Evan Snodgrass gave the Patriots a 26-24 victory.
Liam French and
Evan Snodgrass continued to shine in the second set with more kills and blocks.
Giomar Collazo had a moment where he took control of the game with three straight service aces to rack up 29 service aces for the season. The super sub, Derek Nagle, did not want to miss out and he also recorded two consecutive service aces to help the Patriots take the second set, 25-20.
The third set seemed as if Charleston would take it with ease after an early 13-5 lead. George Mason would then go on a 10-2 run to tie the game up at 15-15.
Robby Nardoni made the save of the season diving into the stands and setting up
Robert Evangelista for the kill. George Mason gained back their momentum and the offensive star of the game,
Liam French, achieved the last kill to sweep the Golden Eagles.
By the numbers:
- Liam French recorded a season high of 20 kills with one service ace
- Giomar Collazo had the most aces with three including four digs and two assists
- Evan Snodgrass was the brick wall tonight recording four blocks
- Senior Troy McDonald led the team in assists (46) and in digs (5)
