Fairfax, Va.- George Mason collect a crucial conference win away at Harvard. The Patriots remain at the top joined by Princeton with a conference record of 4-1.
Harvard began the first set with a quick 3-0 run and the Patriots would later on tie the game at 11-11 with an attack error by the Crimson.
Aidan Weltin earned his spot in the starting team tonight and he recorded three kills to set the tempo. Harvard would claim the 25
th point with a kill by Zach Berty
Jackson Herbert was fired up in the second set collecting kills together with
Giomar Collazo.
Alexander Lillie was clutch once again in a conference match up hitting a perfect 1.000 and adding more blocks to his name. A service error by Harvard would secure the Patriots with a 25-19 second set win.
A dangerous duo of
Troy McDonald and
Evan Snodgrass was on full display with Troy's quick sets leading to powerful kills by the middle blocker, Evan.
Jackson Herbert continued to find gaps and the Patriots won the third set 25-21.
The fourth set was the hardest set of the game with 19 occasions where the game was tied. Both teams reach 24-24 and Harvard reached the 26
th point first to force a fifth set.
George Mason dominated the fifth set quickly securing an 8-3 lead which included a
Troy McDonald service ace before switching sides.
Jackson Herbert and
Liam French collected three kills. Alex Lillie,
Giomar Collazo, and
Evan Snodgrass was also crucial with two kills each to reach the 15
th point to secure the fourth conference win of the season for the Patriots.
By the numbers:
- Sophomore Jackson Herbert reached a new career high of 20 kills
- Troy McDonald led the team in service aces with two, career high 16 digs, and also had 46 assists tonight
- Freshman middle blocker Alexander Lillie had the most blocks with six and had nine kills with a .667 hitting
- Evan Snodgrass had five kills, three assists, and a career high of five total blocks
