Fairfax, Va.- The men's volleyball team will go back on the road after two weekends of home games. George Mason will head towards New Jersey to face against NJIT on Friday and FDU on Saturday.
During their time at home, George Mason broke the record of consecutive home wins with 15 games, achieved against St. Thomas Aquinas on January 31
st. Unfortunately, the streak came to an end with a 3-1 defeat against #16 CSUN.
Alexander Lillie had an immense weekend in the defensive end earning him the title of the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week. The freshman middle hitter delivered five kills on an error-free seven swings to hit .714, adding five blocks in the first match. Two days later he had six kills with two assists, an ace, a dig and four blocks, one solo. He totaled 11 kills on .300 hitting with two assists, an ace, nine blocks and a dig for the No. 20 Patriots.
The first opponent of this week will be a conference matchup against NJIT. George Mason has the upper hand in the head-to-head series with 23 wins and only seven losses. Last year, in both games, the Patriots took both games with a 3-1 victory at home and away.
The second game of the week will be against FDU at Bogota Savings Bank Center. The Knights faced George Mason last year for a two-game series, where George Mason won both games. The overall record between both programs is six wins for the Patriots and no losses against FDU. From the seven games that have been played, FDU have only won three sets while the Patriots have 18 sets to their names.
Scouting NJIT:
- Overall record is 5-2, currently on a five-game winning streak after starting the season with two losses against #9 Grand Canyon
- Their last three games have been sweeps against Saint Francis University, LIU, and Dominican (NY)
