FAIRFAX, Va. - The Patriots women's basketball team beat VCU in their homecoming matchup, 66-48.
Senior
Paula Suárez and redshirt sophomore
Zahirah Walton lead the Patriots today, scoring 17 and 15 points, respectively. Graduate student
Nalani Kaysia cleaned up on the boards, finishing with 14 rebounds, and adding 2 blocks and 3 steals.
The Patriots came out the gates firing, scoring four straight three-pointers from three different players. Sophomore
Kennedy Harris made her return to the court after a lower leg injury sidelined her for a game, hitting the opening bucket of the game. By the end of the quarter, the Patriots led 19-13.
George Mason's defense buckled down in the second quarter, limiting the Rams to just five points while tallying 14 of their own. Suárez led the pack with seven points on 100% shooting that quarter, and the Patriots entered the locker room up, 33-18.
In the second half, junior
Nekhu Mitchell put up 7 points on 3-4 shooting. Walton added another 7 points and the Patriots shot 42% from the floor. VCU tried to make a push, but the Patriots defense strung together enough stops to cruise to their 20
th victory of the season.
