Fairfax, Va.- George Mason began the NEC-EIVA Challenge with a 0-3 loss against Saint Francis.
The first set was a hard-fought battle with the lead changing in eight different occasions. It seemed as if the Patriots had won the first set after a service ace by
Alexander Lillie to make it set point for George Mason. That is when the Red Flash woke up and scored five unanswered points to take a 25-24 lead and force the set to continue. Saint Francis were behind 27-26 but scored three consecutive points to win the first set 29-27.
George Mason was trying to overcome what happened in the first set and the second set was going through the same path. The game was once again tied at 24-24 but the Red Flash knew how to finish a game and took the second set as well.
An early 4-1 for Saint Francis in the third set made it difficult for the Patriots to come back. George Mason was not able to tie the game up but came close at the end with blocks by
Sebastian Sanchez,
Alexander Lillie, and
Jackson Herbert made it a one-point game. A service error by
Aidan Weltin was the final point of the game and the four-game winning streak was broken.
