Fairfax, Va.- George Mason defeats Sacred Heart for their first conference win of the season with a sweep.
It proved to be a difficult battle from the beginning serve. Sacred Heart were about to upset the Patriots with an early 16-11 lead. The Patriots fought back later on in the set with four unanswered points with kills by
Jackson Herbert to cut down the lead to 21-20 still in favor of the Pioneers. Sacred Heart had a 23-22 lead but George Mason had an inspired
Liam French who collected a kill and a service ace for the 25
th point and to conclude the first set in favor for the Patriots.
There were 10 instances where the game was tied in the second set.
Alexander Lillie came to life with kills and adding more blocks to his name. The game remained tied up until the score was 22-22. Another close set was saved by
Liam French who got two kills at the end and
Jackson Herbert achieving the final kill to cushion the Patriots lead, 2-0.
Sacred Heart made some changes to their lineup entering the third set. The lead changed a total of four times with the Pioneers anxious to extend the game to a fourth set. The Patriots went on an impressive five point run which included another kill by
Jackson Herbert. Sacred Heart got two more points while the Patriots were at set point but
Liam French rose to the occasion once again and ended the game with a kill.
