Patriots Square Off With Cornell Tuesday in Fairfax

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team (8-0) wraps up a two-game homestand with a Tuesday night contest vs. Cornell (5-2).

Tip-off between the Patriots and Big Red is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday's game will be streamed nationally on ESPN+, featuring commentary from Bill Rohland and former Patriot standout Chris Fleming. In addition, Voice of the Patriots Steve Kolbe will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with streaming coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.

PATRIOT POINTS
• The Patriots are 8-0 for the first time in school history. George Mason is one of 25 remaining unbeaten teams nationally.

• The Green & Gold are coming off an 82-66 rivalry win over James Madison Saturday in Fairfax. The victory tied the all time series beween the Patriots and Dukes at 51-51.

• Kory Mincy led the Patriots with a game-high 25 points (8-15 FG) to go with two assists and two steals. He has now scored 20+ points in three consecutive contests.

• Mincy is the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after averaging 23.0 points, 3.7 assists, 1.0 steals and shooting 53.8 percent from the floor in wins over Ohio, FAU and JMU. He also went 12-of-25 from 3-point range (.480), 15-of-15 from the free throw line and sported a 5.5 assist/turnover ratio.

• Mincy ranks seventh nationally in FT percentage (.973) and 14th in 3pt percentage (.521). He leads the A-10 in scoring (19.6 ppg), while ranking second in 3pt FG made/game (3.13) and ninth in assists (3.5/game). He also leads the league in minutes/game (34:36).

• GMU leads the A-10 and ranks 15th nationally in 3pt percentage (.408). The Patriots are shooting 45.6 percent (36-79) from deep over the past four games.

• Tony Skinn's Patriot Pressure defense has returned this season, as the Green & Gold rank 22nd nationally in effective FG defense (.438) and 46th in overall defensive efficiency (0.999 ppp). GMU also is 14th in scoring defense (62.4 ppg) and 24th in 3pt defense (.273).

• The Patriots will play a record 10 non-conference home games this season. George Mason is an impressive 38-5 (.884) inside EagleBank Arena under Coach Skinn.

• Riley Allenspach posted a season-best 17 points and team-high nine rebounds against the Dukes. He's averaging 13.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 28.4 minutes and shooting 53.3 percent over the past three games.

• After averaging 14.4 turnovers/game over the first five contests of the season, the Patriots have tallied a much-improved 7.7 turnovers/game over the past three games.

• George Mason ranks seventh nationally in FT rate (.528) and makes 21.5 free throws/game (13th in the country).

• The Patriots enter Tuesday's game ranked 43rd in the NET. GMU also is No. 61 in KenPom.

HISTORY vs. CORNELL
George Mason and Cornell will meet for the third time in men's basketball on Tuesday. The teams have split the previous two meetings. Cornell won the first matchup in Fairfax, 68-60, on Nov. 14, 2014, while the Patriots captured the most recent meeting, 90-83, in Coach Skinn's first season on Nov. 15, 2023.

HISTORY vs. IVY LEAGUE OPPONENTS
George Mason has tallied a 11-3 all time record against opponents from the Ivy League. The Patriots' most common foe is Penn (5-1). In the most recent matchup with an Ivy opponent, the Patriots defeated the Quakers, 85-53, on Dec. 22 last season in Fairfax.

A LOOK AT THE BIG RED (5-2, 0-0 IVY; NET #116, KenPom #146)
Cornell was picked to finish third in the Ivy League preseason poll. The Big Red feature one of the top offenses in the nation. The visitors from Ithaca lead the nation in 3pt FG made/game (15.3) and assists/game (22.9) while ranking eighth in scoring offense (94.3 ppg) and 10th in 3pt percentage (.420). Cooper Noard leads the Ivy League in scoring (21.7 ppg), 3pt percentage (.444) and 3pt FG made/game (3.43). Adam Hinton adds 13.4 points per game, while Jacob Beccles ranks seventh in the Ivy League with 3.1 assists/contest.
