FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason University men's basketball junior guard
Kory Mincy has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
It's the first time in his career Mincy has earned the weekly accolade and the first time a George Mason student-athlete has garnered the award since
Darius Maddox in March 2024.Â
Mincy averaged 23.0 points, 3.7 assists, 1.0 steals and shot 53.8 percent from the floor in three wins for George Mason this week. The Sunshine Slam Most Valuable Player also went 12-of-25 from 3-point range (.480), 15-of-15 from the free throw line and sported a 5.5 assist/turnover ratio.
Mincy opened the week with 22 points, four assists and a career-best six 3-pointers in a 92-69 win over Ohio. Then in the championship game of the Sunshine Slam, he notched 22 points (7-12 FG, 3-5 3pt) and a team-best five assists in a 74-65 win over Florida Atlantic. The East Point, Ga., product wrapped up the week with a game-high 25 points (8-15 FG, 6-6 FT), two assists and two steals in a 82-66 win over James Madison.
On the year, Mincy ranks seventh nationally in FT percentage (.973) and 14th in 3pt percentage (.521). He leads the A-10 in scoring (19.6 ppg), while ranking second in 3pt FG made/game (3.34) and ninth in assists (3.5/game). He also leads the league in minutes/game (34:36).
Mincy and the 8-0 Patriots are off to the best start in program history. George Mason returns to action on Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. home contest vs. Cornell.
