FAIRFAX, Va. - The Patriots wrestling team earned victories over Campbell, The Citadel and Williams College at the George Mason Duals to open the home schedule on Saturday.
The Patriots defeated Campbell 34-13, The Citadel 26-16 and William 31-23. Freshman
Tate Hisey (141) notched three wins, the first of his collegiate career and graduate student
Logan Messer (174) also notched three wins on the day.
In the first match of the day, the Patriots earned bonus points in six of the bouts against the Camels. Redshirt junior
Evan Maag (165), sophomore
Thomas Stofka (157) each recorded a fall, while freshman
Anthony Lucchiani (133) and redshirt seniors
Kaden Cassidy (149) and
Malachi DuVall (184) each registered a technical fall. Maag defeated a top-10 opponent and Cassidy defeated a top-20 opponent, while Lucchiani's pin was the first of his collegiate career.
Against The Citadel, the Patriots earned bonus points in four of their matches with two major decisions and two falls. Graduate student
Benjamin Monn (125) had a takedown in the first and third period and got the match started with a 7-2 decision over returning NCAA Qualifier Gylon Sims. Hisey (141) led 3-1 after the first period and scored an escape point with 40 seconds left in the third for a 4-2 decision. Cassidy (149) had three takedowns and four near-fall points over the first two periods and cruised to a 16-8 major decision over 16th-ranked Carson DesRosier. IT's the second straight week that Cassidy have notched a win against a top-16 opponent.
Redshirt junior
Evan Maag (165) scored a big takedown late in the second period and another late in the third on the way to a 10-2 major decision over 10th-ranked Thomas Snipes. Messer (174) posted a pin in the first period and DuVall (184) ended his match in the second period with the fall to propel the Patriots.
In the final match of the day, George Mason earned bonus points six times against Williams College. Freshmen

Jackson Albert (157) and
Tyson Rakers (165) each made their NCAA debut. Basile recorded a fall at 1:55 of the first period to win his first collegiate match.
Messer (174) racked up the points, taking an 8-3 lead into the third period before scoring two more takedowns for a 15-4 major decision. Freshman
Jack Kelly (184) built an 8-4 advantage in the first period before ending the match with his first NCAA fall with 1:40 remaining in the second.
