FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's basketball team (1-0) brought the pressure during a 70-46 victory over Wofford (0-1) to open the 2025-26 season Monday night inside EagleBank Arena.
Much like during last season's run to the A-10 regular season title, the Patriots cut their teeth on the defensive end in Monday's opener, limiting the Terriers to just 46 points on 30 percent shooting. The Patriots also locked up the 3-point heavy Terriers to just 6-of-29 (.207) from beyond the arc for the game.
Junior guard
Kory Mincy dazzled for the Patriots in his first game in a GMU uniform, pouring in 18 points on just nine shots (6-9 FG, 4-5 3pt) while dishing out a game-high six assists.
Junior forward
Riley Allenspach added 12 points (4-6 FG) and four rebounds, while senior guard
Masai Troutman added 10 points and six rebounds in 29 minutes.
The Patriots shot 47.3 percent for the game and held a +16 (34-18) advantage in points in the paint. George Mason also turned 16 Wofford miscues into a 17-2 edge in points off turnovers for the game.
A total of eight Patriot student-athletes scored at least four points, leading the Green & Gold to a 30-14 advantage in bench scoring for the game.
Next up, George Mason returns to EagleBank Arena for a Friday night battle with Winthrop. Tip-off between the Patriots and Eagles is set for 7 p.m.
