Patriots Clinch Best-Ever Start with 92-69 Win over Ohio in Sunshine Slam

Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The George Mason University men's basketball team (6-0) led by as many as 42 during a dominant 92-69 victory over Ohio University in Monday's Sunshine Slam semifinals.
 
With the victory, the Patriots move to 6-0 for the first time in school history and advance to Tuesday's Sunshine Slam title game against AAC foe Florida Atlantic. 
 
"My staff is phenomenal in the way we scout and prep these guys with information," head coach Tony Skinn ('06) said. "We took Ohio out of rhythm and we took care of the basketball tonight. Defensively, especially in the first half, we got after it and set the tone."
 
George Mason blitzed the Bobcats from the start, hitting eight first half 3-pointers to lead by 19 (52-33) at the break. The Patriots finished with a season-high 14 triples on just 31 attempts (.452) and dished out a season-best 18 assists while committing a season-low six turnovers.
 
Kory Mincy led the Green & Gold with 22 points and hit a career-high six 3-pointers on just 11 attempts. He also dished out four assists in 30 minutes of work.
 
Masai Troutman added 18 points (7-10 FG, 4-4 3pt), five rebounds and two assists, while Jahari Long dished out a career-best eight assists to go with nine points (3-5 3pt) in 28 minutes.
 
Riley Allenspach notched 14 points and eight rebounds, while Fatt Hill made his Mason debut with a solid 13-point, 9-rebound effort in the win.
 
George Mason pushed the pace all night while posting an 18-3 edge in fast break points. GMU also was +10 (34-24) in points in the paint and +14 (39-25) in bench scoring.
 
The Patriots hit four of their first five 3-pointers to race out to an 18-6 lead. Ohio cut the lead to six at 26-20, but the Patriots used a 14-4 run to take a 40-24 lead with 4:25 to play in the opening stanza. George Mason took a 19-point lead (52-33) into the break.
 
The Green & Gold pushed the advantage to 83-41 with 11:59 to play, before pulling the team's key contributors to prepare for Tuesday's championship game.
 
The Patriots will now move on to face the Owls at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night on CBS Sports Network.
