FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's basketball head coach
Tony Skinn ('06) announced Thursday that Shane Pendergrass has signed a national letter of intent to compete for the Patriots, beginning in 2026-27.

A 6-foot-8-inch forward from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Pendergrass is rated as a consensus 4-star, top-100 national prospect by Rivals.com, 247Sports and a host of other recruiting sites.

"We've built a relationship with Shane for years and we're so happy about his decision to come to George Mason," head coach
Tony Skinn ('06) said. "He's an athletic, combo forward who can impact the game in so many different ways. He can rebound, protect the rim and really shoot it."

Pendergrass is ranked 85
th nationally in the Rivals.com Top-150, the No. 14 power forward in the class and the No. 6 player in Virginia. He also is rated as a 4-star prospect and a top-50 forward by ESPN.

He the second-highest rated recruit in George Mason program history.

Pendergrass chose the Patriots over offers from Virginia Tech, Cal and Boise State, among others.

A 2025 National Prep All-America selection at Hargrave Military Academy, he also garnered First Team All Elite Prep League accolades this past season. Pendergrass ranked t-4
th in the conference with 17.4 points/game in league play and was fourth in rebounds/game (8.9).

Pendergrass played his AAU ball for DC Premier and starred at the Under Armour Future 60 and a host of other summer tournaments during his career.

"Shane is a basketball junkie and can talk about the game all day long," Skinn said. "Most importantly, he is a perfect fit in this program. He's a great kid from a great family. Shane embodies our culture and he has the potential to become an All-A-10 player."
