SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – The Patriots came up short on the road Sunday afternoon, falling in four sets to Rhode Island (23-25, 17-25, 25-22, 20-25) at Keaney Gymnasium. Despite strong efforts from multiple contributors, George Mason couldn't sustain momentum after a third-set rally, dropping to 8-6 in Atlantic 10 play.
Nia Thompson led the Patriots with 15 kills and 16 digs for her 11th double-double of the season, while Meredith Brown and Haley Graetz each added nine kills. Chelsea Colter chipped in nine kills and three blocks, and setter Ava Cheney dished out 43 assists to go with four block assists and a pair of digs. Libero Autumn Martinez-Robinson paced the back line with 16 digs and three service aces, and Avery Booker contributed 12 digs and five points.
George Mason hit .139 as a team with 53 total kills and seven aces, while Rhode Island countered with a .197 hitting percentage, 10 aces, and 14 total blocks. The Patriots battled through 17 ties across the match and secured their best frame in the third, hitting .231 to stay alive before the Rams closed it out in the fourth.
