SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – The Patriots battled through a five-set thriller on the road Saturday night, outlasting Rhode Island (22-25, 25-18, 26-24, 21-25, 15-11) to capture their 15th win of the season and remain above .500 in Atlantic 10 play. George Mason hit .233 as a team and recorded 12 service aces in the victory.
The Green & Gold rebounded after dropping the opening set, using a 13-3 run in the second frame to even the match. The Patriots clawed out a 26-24 win in the pivotal third before Rhode Island forced a deciding fifth set. In the finale, George Mason surged ahead early behind key kills from Graetz and Brown to seal the 15-11 set and clinch the 3-2 road win.
