FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team fell to VCU, 2-1, on Wednesday night at George Mason Stadium.
George Mason (5-4-1, 2-1-1 Atlantic 10) took the lead over VCU (4-4-4, 1-1-2 Atlantic 10) in the 24th minute of play.
Off a corner kick, the senior defender
Will Carson sent a header toward the net from 10 yards out that was blocked. The Rams goalkeeper came out of the six-yard box but was unable to get control. The ball bounced into the air and graduate student forward
Jacobo Sanfeliu sent a header past defenders and into the lower left corner to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
VCU scored the equalizer in the 64th minute. Freshman Luca Estabio bent a shot into the upper right corner from 28 yards for his first collegiate goal to tie the match, 1-1.
The Patriots hadn't allowed a goal in 297.77 going back to their match against Georgetown on September 23.
After a foul by the Patriots in the penalty area in the 78th minute, VCU graduate student Camilo Comi converted on the ensuing penalty kick for his first goal of the season to vault the Rams into the lead, 2-1.

The Patriots outshot the Rams, 21-10, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. George Mason had nine corner kicks and VCU earned two corner kicks in the match.

James Eliuda (90 minutes) led the team with five shots with one on goal. Carson (90 minutes) took four shots with two on goal. Sanfeliu (78 minutes) recorded three shots with one on frame.
