Pittsburgh, Pa. - The George Mason Patriots (4-7-2, 3-2-0) dropped their second match in Atlantic 10 play against the Duquesne Dukes (9-3-1, 4-1-0) on Sunday afternoon at Rooney Field.
Duquesne's conference-leading offensive firepower kept George Mason on the defensive for much of the match, disrupting the Patriots' ability to build rhythm and play aggressively. The constant pressure from Duquesne forced them to commit numbers to the back line, which limited their ability to push forward and create scoring opportunities.
Mason generated its limited attacking opportunities through set pieces, quick breakaways, transitional play, and attempts to exploit space behind Duquesne's back line. While the Dukes largely controlled possession, the Patriots found brief surges of offensive momentum in the final 20 minutes of each half.
Despite the loss, George Mason's defense delivered a remarkably strong and gritty performance. With tight coverage and smart positioning, Mason's defenders consistently cut off attacking lanes, stepped between the ball and the attacker, and forced inaccurate passes and crosses. Their ability to take players off the ball and limit clean looks at goal kept the game within reach
