Estero, Fla. – Led by tournament leader Vaughn McMeans, the George Mason men's golf team sits in second place after two rounds at The Island at West Bay college Invitational hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. The Patriots are 10 strokes behind the host eagles who lead the 10-team field at 30-under par.
Four patriots finished 36 holes today under par at the Par 72, 6,939-yard West Bay Club Course. McMeans turned in a standout performance carding rounds of 66 and 67 for an 11 under par 133 to lead the individual standings headed into Tuesday's final round. He tallied 13 birdies across the first two rounds to pace the field. FGCU Tom Scullion is tied with McMeans and are one stroke ahead of two players tied at (-10).
Uzair Mirza was consistent with four birdies in each round to finish 3-under-par, while teammate Philipp Krone finished 2-under par.
Junior Vijay Powell carded two eagles on Par 5s today to stand t29 heading into tomorrow's final round.
The Patriots David Fuhrer rebounded after a 5-over-par 77 to score even par in the afternoon round.
The tournament's final round will be played at 9:00 am on Tuesday.
