FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's basketball team showcased its signature Patriot Pressure defense in Saturday's 74-41 exhibition victory over Alfred.
George Mason held the visiting Saxons to 30.6 percent shooting and turned 19 Alfred miscues into a sizable 27-4 edge in points off turnovers.
A total of 15 Patriots suited up in the game, led by preseason All-A-10 First Team selection
Brayden O'Connor who tallied a team-best 13 points (5-9 FG). He also dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds in just 21 minutes of work.
Nick Ellington added eight points (4-4 FG) for the Green & Gold, while
Masai Troutman,
Stas Sivka and
Devin Booker chipped in seven points. Point guard
Kory Mincy grabbed a game-high seven rebounds to go with four assists and five points in 21 minutes.
George Mason shot 55.4 percent from the floor and held a mammoth 50-12 edge in points in the paint for the game.
The Patriots led 40-11 at the half and held Alfred to 21.7 percent shooting in the opening stanza.
The win wraps up the preseason for the Green & Gold, who will now prepare for the regular season opener on Monday, November 3. The Patriots, who will defend their 2024-25 A-10 regular season title, will host Wofford at 7 p.m. inside EagleBank Arena.
