FAIRFAX, Va. –  The George Mason men's soccer team fell to La Salle, 2-1, on Saturday night at George Mason Stadium.
La Salle (3-4-7, 1-2-3 Atlantic 10) took the lead over George Mason (6-5-1, 3-2-1 Atlantic 10) in the 31st minute of play. La Salle junior midfielder Zach Forehand took possession and scored his third goal of the season from 28 yards out with a shot that rolled into the lower left corner to put the Explorers in front, 1-0.
The Patriots scored the equalizer off a set piece with nine seconds left in the first half. Sophomore forward
Martim Sereno sent a corner kick into the box where Carson took a quick shot and scored his first collegiate goal into the upper corner to make it a 1-1 game.Â
La Salle nearly took the lead in the 85th minute. Off a missed clearance, Patriots graduate student goalkeeper
Jaume Salvado was forced to make a spectacular save. The Explorers collected the rebound and freshman forward Julius de Vries hit the crossbar.
In the 90th minute, junior forward
Kelly Janssen nearly put the Patriots in front, but his shot from 11 yards out hit the crossbar. With 28 seconds remaining in the match the Explorers capitalized on an 3-on-1 counter attack and sophomore forward Alex Lawrence scored his first goal of the season to lift La Salle to its first conference win of the season, 2-1.

The Patriots outshot the Explorers,17-14, while both clubs finished with five shots on goal. George Mason had seven corner kicks and La Salle earned six corner kicks in the match.
