Fairfax, Va. - Senior midfielder Rachel Eberly nets her first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw between the George Mason Patriots (4-8-3, 3-3-1) and Davidson Wildcats (6-5-3, 2-3-2) on Thursday night at George Mason Stadium.
George Mason maintains a 5-2-2 lead in the all-time series against Davidson. Their most recent meeting prior to tonight - a road game for the Patriots on October 14, 2021 - also ended in a 1-1 draw, with both goals scored early in the first half. The Patriots' last victory over the Wildcats came on October 13, 2019, in a 1–0 result.
HOW THEY SCORED
Davidson
23' | The Wildcats applied increased defensive pressure on the Patriots as the home side was attempting to build their attack, causing a misplaced pass and turnover. Sophomore midfielder Sophia Whiddon intercepted and delivered a quick pass to senior forward Dakota Lyons on the left wing. Lyons sprinted down the flank towards goal, made a decisive cut, and unleashed a shot from about 30 yards out - slotting it into the top right corner.
George Mason
65' | After steady possession, the Patriots reset their attack through the back. Defender Carly Passaro carried the ball past the halfway line and delivered a long ball toward the edge of Mason's attacking third. Ariana Bliven met it with a brilliant touch - a well-timed header that redirected the ball into Rachel Eberly's path. Eberly collected it at the top of the box and calmly placed a low shot to the right corner from 12 yards out, beating Davidson's keeper to equalize.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
George Mason outshot Davidson 11-9, but found fewer opportunities on frame, with two shots on goal to Davidson's four. The Patriots held a slight 3-2 advantage in corner kicks, though neither side was able to capitalize during those set pieces.
Six different players on each team registered at least one shot during the match. Junior midfielder Molly Starner led the Patriots with three attempts. Graduate forward Aaliyah Schinaman and sophomore midfielder Gianna Chrapek each contributed two shots.
