FAIRFAX, Va. - The Patriots women's basketball team topped the St. Bonaventure Bonnies in a Sunday showdown, 83-63.
A standout performance from senior captain
Paula Suárez paced the team to victory. Suárez finished with 22 points on 45% shooting, including four three-pointers and five assists.
The Patriots started the game a little slow but finished the quarter on a 21-6 run to take an 11-point lead into the second quarter. Suárez had 10 points in the first quarter, and graduate student
Ta'Viyanna Habib contributed another nine to help build a lead on the Bonnies.
By halftime, the Green & Gold had built their lead to 19 and three Patriots were in double-figures. The team as a whole was shooting 45% from the floor.
In the third quarter, the Patriots got a little stagnant, scoring just 14 points. Sophomore
Trinity Massenburg subbed in for six key points and two big rebounds to keep George Mason in the game.
Suárez got her groove back in the fourth quarter, adding 10 more points, including two three pointers, in just seven minutes of play. The Patriots finished the game shooting 43% from the floor, and outrebounding the Bonnies 48-35, 16-3 on the offensive boards.
