ST. LOUIS, Mo. – George Mason women's basketball steam-rolled the Saint Louis Billikens in a morning midweek matchup. Never once did the Patriots trail, easily finishing with an 80-53 win.
The Patriots were led by junior
Zahirah Walton who had a career game, finishing with a career-high 30 points on 64.7% shooting, including 7-7 from the free throw line, and 6 assists and 5 rebounds. The junior had a standout, seemingly scoring at will.
George Mason started the game on a 13-3 run before the Billikens got some momentum to close the gap. Walton helped finish the game with an and-one three-point play to put the Patriots up 19-13.
The second quarter was where the Patriots built their lead, outscoring the Billikens 21-7, and doubling their total score at the half, 40-20. Walton entered the locker room with 17 points.
Saint Louis started the third quarter with a six-point run, but the Patriots held their own, and eventually, thanks to Walton, graduate student
Nalani Kaysia, and several other players, the Patriots not only rebuilt their 20-point lead, they extended it to as much as 31 in that quarter.
And thanks to that lead, all 13 active players got to see the floor today. At the end of the game, the Patriots got 34 points off the bench, 36 points from in the paint, 12 steals, and just 9 total turnovers. Their 80-53 win moves them to 18-3, 8-2 in conference play.
