FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's basketball beat the Davidson Wildcats in a come-from-behind thriller on Wednesday evening. The Patriots overcame a third-quarter 10-point deficit to beat the Wildcats, 81-73.
Sophomore Kennedy Harris put the team on her back tonight, scoring a career-high 29 points on 67% shooting. She was creative in her methods of scoring, which was only even more fitting since the giveaway item at the stadium was a tote bag with an '80s logo that Harris designed.
The Patriots jumped out to an 11-5 run before the Wildcats went on a 15-2 to end the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Green & Gold outscored Davidson 23-14 thanks to nine points from Harris. The Patriots led by two points going into the locker room after finishing out the half shooting 51.7% from the field.
In the second half, the Wildcats came out on fire. They went up 12 with under two minutes in the third quarter and it looked like the Patriots were out of gas, until Harris and Zahirah Walton took over.
Between the two, they scored 22 points over the last 12 minutes of the game. The Patriots fought back on defense too, holding the Wildcats to just 10 points in the fourth quarter. Shooting 10-11 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter sealed the deal, and when the final buzzer blew, the score read 81-73, and the Patriots had their 16th win of the season.
