Patriots Overcome Slow Start to Top Explorers

Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – George Mason women's basketball beat the La Salle Explorers on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots overcame an early 10-point deficit to beat the Explorers, 57-40.
 
The game started slow for the Patriots. They scored just 6 points on 13 shots. This was the lowest scoring quarter so far this season.  
 
The Green & Gold fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Explorers 18-8. Junior Zahirah Walton scored eight of her eventual 17 points in the second quarter. The teams went to the locker room tied 24-24.
 
In the second half, the Patriots took the lead which they maintained the rest of the game. They led by as much as 20 in the fourth quarter. They held La Salle scoreless for the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, then fended off a run to finish the game 57-40.

  • Zahirah Walton finished with 17 points on 50% shooting
  • Paula Suárez had 10 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals
  • Ta'Viyanna Habib put up 11 points on 83% shooting and added 6 rebounds
  • The Patriots shot 83.3% from the free throw line and 40.7% from the floor

The Patriots will return home on Wednesday, Jan. 22 to take on the Davidson Wildcats. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at EagleBank Arena with broadcast available on ESPN+ and radio on GoMason Digital.
