FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason Patriots topped the Loyola Chicago Ramblers in a Wednesday evening matchup, 69-39.
The game started with a strong defensive possession from the Patriots, forcing shot clock violation to give George Mason the ball. The Green & Gold then jumped out to a 10-0 lead with buckets from four of the five starters.
The Ramblers had moments where they were able to string a few points together, but after that first quarter ended with the Patriots up by 7, the rest of the game was in George Mason's control. At the half, they lead 39-17, shooting 46% from the floor which they were able to maintain the rest of the game.
With a comfortable lead, head coach
Vanessa Blair-Lewis turned to her bench to get some minutes. 13 Patriots played and 12 of them scored. Graduate student
Khamya McNeal came in in the second half and hit two big three-pointers. Sophomore
Faith Okorie posted up in the paint for a nice two points, also adding a block and a steal.
LeAire Nicks got a few minutes of play that she capitalized off with two points and two rebounds. The future of Mason Basketball is bright.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Patriots left the court with another tally in the win column.
