Fairfax, Va.- #17 George Mason inaugurates their season by traveling to the West Coast to face #18 UC San Diego. This will be the second consecutive year where UC San Diego is the first opponent that the Patriots face to start off their season. Last time both teams faced off was January 4th, 2024 with the Tritons winning the game, 3-1.
The Patriots concluded the 2024 season with an 18-10 overall record and a 6-4 conference record. George Mason finished second in the EIVA Conference, only behind Penn State who went undefeated in the conference.
Many key players have departed such as
Omar Hoyos, Paul Wyzsynski, and
Jack Bolz. All three players have been signed to play professional volleyball in Europe with Omar going to Spain, Paul to Poland, and
Jack Bolz moving to Portugal. They were the statistical leaders from last season in kills, digs, and service aces.
Liam French and
Jackson Herbert have been chosen as the "EIVA Players to Watch" with both players entering the season with a lot to prove.
Troy McDonald led the team in assists in 2024 and will continue to dish out assists this season and enter his name to the Top 9 of most assists in program history (285 to go).
Many newcomers have joined the Green and Gold during the offseason with hopes to make an impact on the court. Giomar Collazo,

Elijah Lazor,
Robby Nardoni,
Aidan Weltin,
Jack Lopez, and Alex Lillie have joined this season with many accolades and ready to compete.

- Overall record of 3-0 facing #20 McKendree, Saint Francis, and Daemen
- Have not lost a single set yet in all three games
- Redshirt Junior Josh Schellinger leads in kills with 26 for the Tritons
- Graduate student Bryce Dvorak leads his team in assists with 84 and in service aces with 12
- Sophomore Keegan Cook has the most digs with 19
- Redshirt Junior Jim Garrison is the defensive unit with 12 blocks for UC San Diego
