FAIRFAX, Va. – The women's volleyball team heads south this weekend to the Tribe Invitational, hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
The Patriots open up the weekend with a game against the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Friday, Sept. 6. The Bobcats are 1-3 so far this year. They are led by Elena Giacomini who tallied 57 kills so far this season, including two double-doubles in kills and digs in their first four games. Ginevra Giovagnoli is a close second on the team with 50 total kills and three double-doubles so far this season. The Bobcats were picked to finish second in the preseason MAAC Coaches' poll. Giovagnoli was named the MAAC preseason MAAC Player of the Year.
Then, on Saturday, Aug. 31, the Patriots will face the Bucknell Bison at 10:30 a.m. The Bison are 2-1 this season, picking up their two wins last weekend against Merrimack and Binghamton. The Bison have been tapped to finish third by the Patriot League preseason poll. Sidney Shaffer and Tijana Kostic were named to the Bearcat Classic All-Tournament team for their play last weekend. Bri Frazilus leads the team with 33 kills and 35 points.
Finally, on Saturday afternoon, the Green & Gold play the hosts, William & Mary, at 6 p.m. The Tribe are 1-2 so far this year, with their sole win coming against UT San Antonio last weekend. The Tribe are led by Maddie Meyers with 42 kills and 46 points on the season so far. Olivia Esposito was named to the preseason All-CAA team after being named to the All-CAA Second team last year and being ranked 32
nd in the country in blocks-per-set (1.19). The Tribe was selected to finish ninth in the CAA preseason poll.
Patriot Points
- The Patriots are 1-2 so far in the 2024 season, with their first win coming last Sunday against UC Riverside, 3-2.
- Freshman Avery Booker leads the team with 31 kills and 34 points on the season, including a game-high 19 kills against UC Riverside in the Patriots home opener win last weekend.
- Sophomore Camryn Weldon and red-shirt junior Damiana Bova-Ford lead the team in assists with 58 and 44, respectively.
- Senior Camille Larkin and junior Haley Graetz lead the team in blocks, both having tallied 7.0 so far this season.
Admission to the Tribe Invitational is
free, but there is a
clear bag policy in place for Kaplan Arena.
