Women's Soccer Drop Matchup Against Fordham Rams

FAIRFAX, VA- In their first A-10 match up, the George Mason women's soccer team (2-6-2, 0-1-0 A-10) battled today but dropped an evening match up against the Fordham Rams (6-2-1, 1-0-0 A-10), 2-0, inside George Mason Stadium.

Both teams went scoreless in the first half with Fordham having ten shots compared to the Patriots three. Goalkeeper Victoria Coninck had four saves in the first half and five in the second. The Fordham Rams finally reached the goal in the 77th minute on a penalty kick, scored by Lena Johnsen. A few minutes later the Rams Liina Tervo scored, assisted by Abby Borchers. The Rams scored a last second goal in the 90th minute to secure the win 3-0. Fordham had the advantage in corner kicks 7-4 and total shots 26-11. The George Mason Patriots had the advantage on defense, with nine total saves in goal compared to the Rams two.

The Patriots are on the road for Sunday's match up against Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia at 1 p.m. This will be the Patriots second A-10 match up of the season.
