FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team lost a match to the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday afternoon, 0-3.
The Patriots (3-6) fought to keep close with the Bobcats (3-7) but couldn't hold on, losing in straight sets: 25-20, 25-22, 25-16.
Though having bested the Bobcats 3-1 earlier this season in the Tribe Invitational, the final match in the Mason Invitational just didn't click for the Patriots.
In the first set, Quinnipiac jumped out to an 11-3 lead. The Patriots fought back on the service of sophomore
Caroline Rodriguez to tie the game up at 16-16, but the Bobcats answered with a run of their own, ending the set, 25-20.
The second set was a nail-biter, with both teams exchanging points back and forth, neither team leading by more than three until the end. With the game tied at 21, it was a 4-1 run by the Bobcats that ended the set.
Quinnipiac owned the third set, never trailing. And though the Patriots fought to bring themselves within three at 10-13, the Bobcats kept momentum and finished the set, 25-16.
