FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason women's soccer took on the Elon Phoenix on the road to start the 2024 season. The Phoenix (1-0-0) defeated the Patriots (0-1-0), 1-0, at Rudd Field.
Elon's Ludia Trotten scored the game-winning goal with 22 minutes left in the first half. The assist was credited to Jordan Green.
The Green and Gold's
Kiyomi McCausland and
Carly Passaro made the Elon goalkeeper work with their three combined attempts on target. Both teams had two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes. The Phoenix out-shot the Patriots, 7-2 in the first frame, 12-3 overall.
George Mason's
Selamawit Caldart played the entire match in goal. The junior had three saves.
Seventeen Patriots saw the field in Head Coach
Aaron Brunner's debut for George Mason.
George Mason will continue on the road staying in North Carolina to face Campbell University on August 18
that 2pm.
