After scoring the lowest round on Sunday at the Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, VA, recent George Mason graduate Nikita Gubenko was crowned champion of the prestigious Kenridge Invitational played this past weekend.
Gubenko shot even-par (72-72-66) for a one-stroke win over Vanderbilt golfer Chase Nevins at the Par 70, 6,821-yard Main Course designed by Fred Findlay in the 1920s. The win marks the second consecutive George Mason alum to win the event as Scott Shingler '95 won in 2023.
The McLean, Va. golfer carded five birdies after bogeying the first hole in the final round to claim the championship. He finished with 10 birdies overall in the 54-hole tournament.
The Kenridge Invitational is a flighted tournament with the Championship Flight consisting of the 40 low scores and ties after the second round.
Six George Mason teammates played in the tournament with Samir Davidov (20th) and Aryan Vuradi (40th) finishing in the Championship Flight. Three players finished in the remaining flights among the 124 golfers, including JJ Powell (flight 2), Pierce Hokenson (flight 3), and Seth Conway (flight 6).
The tournament is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event and also provides points toward the VSGA player rankings.
