TOWSON, Md. – The George Mason baseball team rallied from a four-run deficit but dropped its midweek game at Towson, 8-5, on Wednesday at Schuerholz Park in Towson, Md.
Sophomore designated hitter
James Quinn-Irons hit his 12th home run of the season and senior right fielder
Derek Wood drove in a pair of runs in the game.
George Mason (20-27, 6-12 A10) senior starter and Towson (13-36, 3-17 CAA) junior starter Jake Michel each kept the game scoreless through the first three innings.
The Patriots took the lead with two outs in the top of the fourth. Graduate student left fielder
Ben Jones was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Junior first baseman
Connor Dykstra followed with a RBI-single up the middle to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
The Patriots have scored the first run of the game in six straight contests.
In the home half of the fourth, Towson sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs on four hits against Menaker and sophomore reliever
Logan Rumberg. Tigers senior designated hitter Jack Lawrence hit a two-run home run and junior shortstop Jordan Peton had a two-out, RBI-triple in the inning.
George Mason made it a one-run game with three runs in the top of the fifth against Michel and Tigers junior reliever Brett Seils.
Quinn-Irons led off with a walk and with one out, junior shortstop
Carsen Pracht was hit by a pitch and sophomore third baseman
Evan Blanchard singled to the pitcher to load the bases.
Wood then knocked in two runs with a single through the right side to trim the Tigers lead to 5-3.

South Trimble followed with a RBI-single through the left side off Seils to make it a one-run game at 5-4.
With one out in the top of the sixth, Quinn-Irons belted his 12th home run of the season, a solo blast to left field to tie the score 5-5.
Towson scored the final three runs of the game with single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth inning for the 8-5 final score.
For the Patriots, Menaker (1-2) allowed three runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings and took the loss. Rumberg gave up two runs on one hit in 1.0 inning. Freshman
Shaun Okeeffe allowed one run on two hits in 1.1 innings. Junior
Britt Yount surrendered one run on one hit in 1.2 innings. Sophomore
Owen Stewart gave up one run on one hit in 1.0 inning.
For the Tigers, Michel allowed four runs on three hits in 4.1 innings. Seils (1-5) gave up one run on three hits in 1.2 innings and earned the win. Senior Justin Rebok tossed 2.0 hitless innings and freshman Ryder Jeske pitched the ninth to pick up his first collegiate save.
Trimble went 2-for-4 with one RBI, Wood was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Quinn-Irons finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored.
The Patriots are on the road for their final Atlantic 10 road series of the season against Saint Joseph's beginning Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
